Consulting FAQ’s

Are you something like SUPERNANNY?

Yes and No.  Yes, I do help equip parents to build up a home with discipline and harmony, helping with issues like sleep, scheduling, mealtime, and limit setting. But no, I do not come into your home with videotape and disrupt your home for weeks. And no, your family does not need to suffer public humiliation to get the help they need.

I guarantee the strictest confidentiality as we work together. I will be available to you  through emails and phone calls and also home visits as necessary, walking step by step with you with encouragement and support.

Do I need your services if I have a nanny, friend, or my mom helping me?

Nannies, friends, and moms can be of great practical help and emotional support for all parents.  However, what your mom did years ago isn’t always the best fit, and sometimes it can be complicated receiving advice from a family member or close friend.

What Mother's Friend does is consult with you and your personal needs and preferences and designs a unique plan for you to reach your goals. Then, we walk alongside you every step of the way until you feel confident in walking again on your own.

Mother’s Friend SOS comes to the rescue with no other motive but to help you feel confident and secure in your parenting. Whether you are just coming home from the hospital with your newborn or having issues with sibling rivalry, we will guide you step by step through the process of managing your situation.

How are you qualified to help me?

For over 25 years, I have been caring for children from the classroom to church to home childcare to parenting consultation. In addition, I have three daughters, serve as a mentor mom and keynote speaker for mom's groups, and am a postpartum doula.  As a credentialed teacher and master teacher with a Masters in Education, I specialize in language acquisition with a sensitivity to ethnic diversities and cultures.

Aside from my professional qualifications, what’s important to know is that I have an inborn passion to help in matters of child-rearing.  When I see parents struggle, I am drawn to help. Great satisfaction comes from seeing families grow and develop as they are equipped to meet the needs of their family.

I have many families that have personal testimonies to my commitment and care. Email me for a list of references.

What does it look like once I sign up?

We begin with a FREE initial consultation. Most people start by email, just describing in detail what their situation is and what their goals are. A phone consultation is an option too.

After fully understanding the situation and needs, a plan is proposed to help bring confidence and success to the situation. At that point, if the client agrees on the plan, we accept a deposit for half the package or time we've alloted for the consulting. At the conclusion of the consulting time, we receive full payment.

We are very flexible. Many clients find that they like to go hour by hour and keep their account open each month, paying for hours used at the end of the month

We will work with you to meet your individual needs and preferences.

There is no obligation to inquire, so please feel free to contact Suzy. We understand that this can be the hardest step-but we assure you that it only gets better from there.

What is your style and philosophy?

We believe that all families are meant to be immense blessings to each member of the family as well to all others they come in contact with. Of course, all families come with challenges, but even through the hard times, parenting can be enjoyed through and through.

When there is chaos and confusion, it is very hard to enjoy the entire process of parenting. What Mother's Friend does is work with families to equip and inspire them to become the harmonious family unit that they aspire to be.

Mother's Friend's mission is to bring joy back into parenting so that families can indeed "Enjoy the Ride." We will work with your individual needs to help bring peace and joy into your lives!

Doesn’t parenting come naturally and instinctually?

Although it might come more naturally for some than others, even the most adept parents find themselves needing input, support, and/or advice from outside at different points along the journey.  There is no shame in asking for help when it’s necessary and it is very healthy to acknowledge this need and get early intervention for the best long-term results.

Aren’t all answers to my parenting questions in the books I have scattered throughout my house?

Yes, of course there is a wealth of very good information at everyone’s fingertips.  However, sometimes it’s hard understand how to implement the various ideas to your very specific and unique situation.  You sometimes wish you could ask the author exactly what certain techniques look like in application or whether your situation calls for this or that or just how long you would use a certain technique.

What Mother’s Friend offers you is someone who will walk alongside you each step of the way and is here for you to ask those pressing questions at each turn.  We will help you monitor, adjust, and respond constructively until you feel confident in the results you are seeing.  No book alone can do that for you.
